Meeting Management

Implementation of the Balanced Scorecard opens the door to a new type of management meeting that focuses on a process of reviewing strategic performance. This "new management meeting" is about strategy, not tactics. At the heart of the strategic management process is the strategy review meeting. The ultimate goal of this meeting is to generate discussion, make course corrections, and determine the next steps in the implementation of the strategy. ESM contains a meeting view interface that integrates all of the necessary information to conduct an effective strategic review and gain consensus on clear strategic decisions. The meeting view includes the following customizable views:

  • Balanced Scorecard
  • Strategy map
  • Personal dashboard
  • Objectives
  • Measures
  • Initiatives
  • Theme maps
  • Alignment views
  • Action items

From the meeting view, scorecard managers and editors can directly edit their charts and performance reviews, allowing for quick and efficient management of strategic information. Page layouts can also be exported directly to PDF for offline review or dissemination. All of these functions can easily be performed by non-technical users.

Intuitive Interface

Whether you are the president or front office receptionist, ESM is built for you. Unlike most strategy management applications on the market, the ESM team has focused on the strategy professional, measure owner, and project manager to ensure that the typical business professional can easily navigate within the application. Depending on user access rights, custom views can be configured by the end user so that the critical information necessary for strategy execution is viewed.

ESM meeting view can be switched to full screen view, maximizing screen real estate for the presentation of strategic data. Typical strategy review meetings begin with a review of the Balanced Scorecard and strategy map. Both are interactive, complete with roll over previews. The meeting view offers online agenda pages for strategic elements to be reviewed and action item views to capture meeting minutes and "take away decisions."

Alternative views of the strategy are captured through various theme, initiative mapping, summary, and Gantt chart layouts. Organizations with multiple scorecards within the ESM can customize views on an individual user, scorecard team, and/or organization wide layout. For example, users within a finance, HR or marketing scorecard often review their strategy in different ways than users at the corporate or business unit level. An application should never hinder the review approach your team is comfortable using. ESM is easily configurable to your reporting environment. View Tutorial: Intuitive Interface

Personal Page Views

We've learned over the years that the key to a sustainable strategy execution culture is individual engagement. Furthermore, this individual engagement around the strategy will only come if one's "day job" isn't disrupted too much. The ESM team worked very hard to create a My ESM interface and other user specific custom views that communicate the necessary strategic data.

The My ESM interface can be configured by the end user directly or on behalf of the end user by the client administrator so that the specific strategic elements the user is responsible for reporting on is in one central location. Data from within My ESM can be copied forward from various reporting periods to accelerate the update process. Less time is spent copying and pasting data and more is spent capturing thoughtful analysis. The precious time spent on strategy needs to be used wisely.

Briefing Export

ESM facilitates online review meetings whereby the ESM is projected from a computer during a review or shared through a web meeting room when participants are geographically dispersed. The online meeting management supports the dynamic discussion and drill down between strategic elements across the scorecards. Solely using paper based reports can stint discussion, create distractions, and hinder the natural flow within a strategic discussion.

On the flip side, the ESM team recognizes the importance of paper based reports for prebriefing leadership, reference and note-taking during review meetings, or simply as a back up, so we've built in Adobe PDF, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint generation capabilities. Your ESM account manager will guide you with example report templates and best practice approaches we've learned from the ESM community of users. View Tutorial: Briefing Export
